Announced Failure

Any component that generates noticeable symptoms, such as higher than a normal temperature, noise, or vibration, as it begins to fail. Machines containing components that announce their failure are readily monitored; therefore, they can be included in predictive monitoring programs. (Examples: rolling element bearing failures that result in noise and heat, gear failures that result in noise and vibration, or changes in rotor imbalance that result in vibration.)
