Camshaft

As the camshaft is rotated, the follower is forced up and down as it follows the profile of the cam lobe. Multiple followers are connected to the engine’s valves through various types of linkages called push rods and rocker arms.

A shaft having one or more cams used to operate the valves of an internal combustion engine. The camshaft is driven by the crankshaft, via a belt, chain, or gears, at one half the crankshaft speed. One or more camshafts regulate the opening and closing of the valves in all piston engines.
