Friction

A resistance to motion on a surface or by a substance as a result of its contact with another surface or substance. Sliding friction occurs between two solid bodies, whereas fluid friction occurs between the molecules of a fluid in motion. Both types of friction can be wasteful in power and energy. Sliding friction causes wear.
