Hermetic Motor

A motor sealed within the refrigerant atmosphere inside a chiller and therefore isolated from the outside atmosphere. A hermetic motor is efficiently cooled by liquid refrigerant sprayed directly on the motor windings and is smaller and lighter than a comparable air-cooled motor. A pump driven by a hermetic motor has the advantage that the compressor shaft does not have to pass through a seal between the outside atmosphere and the refrigerant atmosphere inside the chiller.
