Journal Bearing

As the shaft rotates, oil is forced into a converging wedge between the journal and bearing surface. A fully developed oil wedge will generate sufficient oil pressure to lift the journal away from the bearing surface and dramatically reduce rotational friction.

 

A tight-fitting, Babbitted bearing used in critical pumps, compressors, and motors.
