Preventive Maintenance (PM)
A proactive program using systematic inspections, detection methods, and correction of incipient failures before they occur, or intervention before known problems can develop into major defects. PM requires regular use of proper maintenance procedures at fixed intervals; replacing, overhauling, or remanufacturing an item regardless of is condition at the time. (Examples: continual maintenance of a clean environment, periodic oil changeout, periodic internal machine inspections, scheduled restoration tasks, and scheduled discard tasks.)
