Signal-To-Noise Ratio (SNR)

A signal processing term used to define how the desired portion of a signal compares to the level of background noise. This ratio is typically expressed as the power of the meaningful signal, Psignal, to the power of background noise, Pnoise, imbedded within the overall input signal:
