Thermal Radiation

A type of heat energy made up of electromagnetic radiation that is generated by the thermal motion of particles in matter. All matter with a temperature greater than absolute zero emits thermal radiation. The intensity and distribution of radiant energy within this range is governed by the temperature of the emitting surface. According to the Stefan-Boltzmann law, the total radiant heat energy emitted by a surface is proportional to the fourth power of its absolute temperature.
