Volute

The outer casing of a centrifugal pump that receives the fluid expelled by the impeller. In the volute, the liquid exits the impeller with high kinetic energy, or velocity; travels around the volute, through a channel, toward the pump discharge with a gradually increasing cross-sectional area; then arrives at the discharge nozzle at a lower velocity and an increased pressure.
