C,  Fluid Flow,  Process & Operational Term

Cavitation

A condition that can occur in liquid-handling machinery, like centrifugal pumps, where a system pressure decrease in the suction line and pump inlet lowers fluid pressure and vaporization occurs. Cavitation results in mixed flow, which may produce vibration, noise, reduced efficiency, and impeller damage.

See also Implode.
