Gland
A general type of stuffing box used to seal a rotating or reciprocating shaft against a fluid. The two basic types are the mechanical seal, which holds one half of the mechanical seal and attaches it to the stuffing box, and the steam turbine, where the steam turbine rotor passes through the casing. The gland may house a set of carbon rings, labyrinth packing, or a mechanical steam lubricated seal.
