Net Positive Suction Head Required (NPSHr)

The suction head above the pumping liquid’s vapor pressure required to prevent a pump from cavitating. This number is provided by the pump manufacturer. Since the number was generated by testing with cold fresh water, it can be lowered in some cases when pumping hot water or some hydrocarbons.
