Torque Measurement System
A measurement system used to continuously measure the mechanical torque and power output of a rotating shaft without the need for shaft modifications. These systems require that strain gauge sensors be applied onto the shaft, coupling spacer, or other rotating element transmitting the torque of interest. The strain gauge signals must be transmitted, using some type of wireless telemetry configuration, to a stationary receiver where they are used to infer the transmitted torque. Once the rotary torque is known, the transmitter power can be determined using the formula:
Power = Torque × Rotary Speed.
