C,  Flow Element,  Process & Operational Term

Coalescer

The portion of a separator that forces gas to follow a tortuous path. The momentum of the liquid droplets in the gas causes them to collide with other smaller droplets and form larger droplets as they are forced to change directions. These larger droplets eventually settle out of the gas phase due to gravity.

(Examples: Wire mesh screens, narrowly spaced vane elements, and filter cartridges.)
