Coating (Gas Turbine)

Any layer of material added on a gas turbine component to provide either oxidation resistance, erosion resistance, or a barrier for thermal protection. These types of coatings, when applied to hot section parts, are referred to as thermal barrier coatings. Despite being typically only 0.0079 inch (1/5 mm) thick, a thermal bearing coating can provide a drop of 180 to 540°F (100 to 300°C) between the gas and metal surface temperatures.
