The abbreviation for Distributed Controls System. A computerized control system for a process or plant, using many control loops, where autonomous smart controllers are distributed throughout a site. The DCS concept increases reliability and reduces installation costs by localizing control functions near a process plant, while allowing remote monitoring and supervision.
