Destabilizing Force

Any unwanted force that encourages vibration by acting tangentially to the rotor’s whirling motion. These forces compete with damping forces that tend to stabilize the rotor. When damping forces are larger than destabilizing forces, the vibration levels remain stable. Destabilizing forces can be generated by bearings, seals, and aerodynamic effects.
