The abbreviation for Exhaust Gas Temperature Spread. The internal temperature measurements used to detect firing issues before damage occurs. Gas turbine performance is very sensitive to inlet temperature of the power recovery section. For this reason, gas turbine manufacturers are constantly striving to increase the power turbine inlet temperature to improve engine performance. However, turbine life is sensitive to firing temperature and can easily be damaged if design firing temperatures are exceeded. Monitor the exhaust gas temperature spread to detect firing issues and avoid damage. Poor combustion can give rise to uneven temperatures in the turbine’s hot section, resulting in localized hot spots. Such damage can seriously damage the hot end components of an engine, resulting in unscheduled downtime and increased maintenance costs. Clogged or loose fuel nozzles are the main causes of combustion problems and can give rise to severe burning problems in the hot end components.
