Fin (Heat Transfer)

A thin metal surface that protrudes from an object to increase the rate of heat transfer to or from the environment by increasing the surface area available for thermal convection. Multiple fin arrangements can be found in totally enclosed fan-cooled electric motors, bearing housings, and fin fan coolers.
