Hydraulic Institute Pump Classifications

The Hydraulic Institute categorizes centrifugal pumps into three main pump categories:

1. Overhung (OH) Pumps

2. Between Bearings (BB) Pumps

3. Vertically Suspended (VS) Pumps

Under these main groups, the Hydraulic Institute has identified unique design configurations. Overhung pumps have OHxx notations, between bearing pumps have BBx notations, and vertically suspended pumps have VSx notations.
