LVDT
The abbreviation for a Linear Variable Differential Transformer. A type of electrical transformer used to measure linear displacement or position. LVDTs are electromechanical sensors that produce a linear electrical output directly proportional to the position of a movable ferrous core of a nickel-iron alloy. Typically, the LVDT body is fixed in place and the ferrous core is attached to the moving element on the piece of equipment for position feedback.
Also known as a Differential Transformer.
