Mothballing

The conservation of idled rotating machinery for a specified time period so that if needed it can quickly be put back into production. The main goals of mothballing are to preserve equipment without any considerable loss of useful operating life, maintain the preservation status of machinery with minimum maintenance activities, and provide the capability to activate and recommission the equipment at a minimum cost and delay.

Also known as Equipment Preservation.
