Horsepower/Torque,  P

Prony Brake

A device used to measure horsepower by squeezing brake blocks around the output shaft of the engine or motor and then measuring the force transferred to the brake through friction. The friction is increased by tightening the brake blocks until the frequency of rotation of the shaft is reduced.
