Rerate (Machinery)

Any design modification to a process machine intended to change its process capability. Some examples of machine modifications that can be considered rerates include: destaging or adding stages to a centrifugal pump or compressor rotor to change the rated flow, re-cylindering a reciprocating compressor to change its rated flow, modifying the design speed of a machine to change its rated flow, or increasing the driver’s horsepower rating to get more flow or pressure from a pump or compressor.
