Variable Volume Clearance Pocket

A flow control device on the head end of a reciprocating compressor cylinder that functions by positioning an internal piston to add a fixed volume to the built-in clearance volume of the cylinder to reduce the volumetric efficiency and, therefore, the flow rate.
