Vespel

The trademark name of a range of durable, high-performance, polyimide-based plastics manufactured by DuPont. The properties of Vespel reduce the risk of pump seizure and allow internal rotating-to-stationary part clearances to be reduced by 50% or more. Fluid processing industries have embraced the use of composite materials in pumps to reduce vibration, increase mechanical seal life and the mean time between repairs, reduce the risk of seizure, increase efficiency, and reduce repair costs. The API 610 standard now recognizes the use of composites to improve pump reliability.
