Von Mises Yield Criterion

A theory that postulates that if the Von Mises stress at any point in a structure or component under load is equal to or greater than the yield limit of the same material, under simple tension, then yield will occur. This criterion is widely applied by designers to check whether their design will withstand a given load condition. This analysis approach works well for most cases, especially when the component being analyzed is made of a ductile material.
