WPII (Weather-Protected II) Electric Motor
An electric motor with baffles on the air inlets that force air to change direction by 90 degrees three times. This design prevents water and a certain degree of dust from entering the motor, which makes it suitable for most industrial applications that may have water spraying from angles more than 15 degrees from vertical. WPII is designed to be suitable for outdoor applications with up to 100-mph (161-km/h) winds of driving rain at the motor. WPII electric motors have internal fans on the rotor for cooling that suck air into the motor, across the rotor, and then out; internal air filters that must be replaced or cleaned on a regular basis, and internal motor cleaning due to air filters that are not 100% effective in removing contaminates from the entering air stream. For highly critical motor applications, where downtime is costly or the atmosphere is corrosive or extremely dirty, consider using a totally enclosed, water-cooled motor instead of a WPII electric motor.
