Vortex Breaker

Various vortex breaker designs.

A static device used to stop the formation of a vortex when a liquid is drained from a vessel, such as a tank or vapor-liquid separator. Vortex breakers are typically installed at liquid outlet nozzles where vapor entrainment is undesired, such as in nozzles feeding pump suctions. Severe vortexing entrains vapors, which, in turn, can result in pumping problems.
