C,  Rotordynamics

Cross-Coupled Stiffness

A rotordynamic modeling element, typically denoted by Kxy or Kyx, used to define certain stiffness properties of bearings and seals. This type of stiffness element, which tends to have a destabilizing effect on a rotor, generates forces that act tangential to a rotor’s orbit, perpendicular to bearing principle stiffnesses, and opposite to bearing damping forces.
