Flooded Screw Compressor
A rotary screw compressor is available in oil-free or oil-flooded designs. Oil-free compressors have timing gears to keep the rotors from contacting but oil-flooded compressors do not. In an oil-flooded rotary screw compressor, lubricating oil bridges the space between the rotors, provides a hydraulic seal, and allows the safe transfer of torque between the driving and driven rotor. Any separating liquid circulating in the compression space will make it a wet screw machine.
