Unannounced Failure

Any component that does not generate any noticeable symptoms, such as higher than a normal temperature, noise, or vibrations, as it begins to fail. Unannounced component failures are difficult to detect and trend; therefore, components falling in this category are typically not included in predictive monitoring programs. Periodic internal inspections are often used to detect early unannounced failures. (Examples: internal corrosion, internal erosion, and fouling.)
